Since I moved to Hawaii I have been wanting to go to the Big Island to see some lava flowing.
Like the name suggests, the Big Island is well, big.

Big enough to have two airports.

So you have to choose whether or not you're going to fly into Kona or Hilo. When we were planning the trip everyone we mentioned it to (and I mean EVERYONE) suggested the Kona side over the Hilo side. So we chose a resort in this area to stay.

The Kona side is the resort side. So if that's what you're into, stay there. We soon learned however that the stuff we really wanted to do, like lava, was way closer to Hilo.

Also I had an opportunity to check out the observatory on Mauna Kea.

Which was also closer to Hilo.
I heard the boat tour for lava got really close to the stuff. So we made a reservation for the 5am tour. When we made the reservation we found out that we would have to leave our hotel at 1:45am to get to the spot where we catch the boat on time. But if we were in Hilo we could leave at 3:35am. At the time we were heading to Hilo for the day to check it out. (By the way, Hilo "for the day" is pretty much impossible to pull off. Hence the second airport.)
So we decided to just find a room in Hilo for the night. Hilo has a lot more charm for our tastes, it also has a lot more rain however. So if you need to have sun on your vacation, stick with Kona.

But we wished we had stayed in Hilo. Which basically told us that we are out of touch with our friends.

A quick update of my multi-fandom recs page (14 HP stories, 1 Star Trek-Reboot, 1 True Blood, 1 White Collar) can be found here at 'Recs Recs Recs: a work-in-progress'
I've made thirty or so random URL changes, as I always do (this time concentrating on alternate links for stories that had been hosted on geocities), but if you see a broken link and know where that fic has been re-housed, please let me know!
(Note: The next recs updates will be the massive holiday fest ones, which I won't be posting until after the author reveals.)

For my English Composition class, I'm supposed to write an essay about morality/spirituality/religion in a pop-culture visual artwork (such as film). I've chosen to write on The Search For John Gissing, for probably obvious reasons. *laughs* Anyhoo, I was wondering if y'alls could direct me to some good articles, youtube interviews, etc. on the movie. Any that have quotes by the actors about their characters and the film would be particularly helpful. Thanks a lot! :)

Check it out! Part of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sneek peak from the Half-Blood Prince DVD is now online at this link (spoiler caution and note quality is not very good). Update 2: Warner Brothers has removed the video. UPDATE: Screencaps are now here. You will see and hear someone, Mr. Ollivander (John Hurt) or Xeno Lovegood (Rhys Ifans) speaking about the three

As a follow to the four second ET Canada footage from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows from last night, three more new seconds are now online (yes really that's it). New is a shot of Ron peering around the corner in what looks like London, and another new shot Harry and Hermione in the snow, looking down at the ground (Godric's Hollow, camping? we dont know). Thanks again Julian!

I don't know why but tonight's The Office and 30 Rock both played without sound.
No that's not accurate. Without dialogue.
The Office was pretty much just "room tone" for the entire show except the commercials.
I erased it off the DVR.
Then on 30 Rock it was just the background music. Which was good and I never paid attention to it before. But again no dialogue. So I erased it too. Oddly there was sound in the piece from the Office that overlapped into my 30 Rock recording.
This sucks. Is it an NBC thing or KHNL? I don't get it. Is it my TV?
I went online to see if anyone else had mentioned anything. I didn't find anyone, so I figured I'd start.

This was one of her first toys. She loved it.
May it rest in peace.
